GWRRA NC-B2 has taken on Project Teddy Bears that are given out to campers (children) with chronic/life threatening illnesses attending Victory Junction Gang Camp (VJGC). VJGC campers are predominately from North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. There is a desperate need for these teddy bears. This year, the need for teddy bears is approximately 1600. There is no way any one person or chapter can remotely fulfill this need. We need everyone, every chapter, to pull together and give VJGC campers something to take home and remind them of the great times.  You are encouraged to visit the VJGC website at http://www.victoryjunction.org/ to understand what they are about.

 

Project Teddy Bears was first introduced to Chapter B2 members and visitors on 9Jan07. A Volunteer Sign-Up sheet for workers was passed around and donations accepted to purchase materials needed. NC Chapter G, High Point, and Chapter M, Salisbury, has also agreed to take on this project.

 

Our immediate goal is to present VJGC with 125 teddy bears for their first week-long summer session which commences 03 June. A scheduled ride will be worked out in sufficient time so that all Chapters/volunteers can plan to attend.

                                                                                                                                                                            What a successful month it has been since we began                          

this project!  We have 40 completed teddy bears that are

ready for delivery.   With donations made, we were able to purchase sufficient fabric and polyester fiberfill to meet our immediate goal of 125 bears!  Thank you all for your donations.  This is a fantastic start!!  However, we hope for continued funding in order to work beyond our immediate goal and make this project an on-going effort as long as Victory Junction Gang Camp requires our support.

As of 19Feb07, we have representation from eight GWRRA Chapters providing their Labor of Love in the completion of these bears.  Jim and I made a Chapter Friendship Visitation to Chapter H2, Durham and were asked to provide them with an article about the project for their monthly newsletter. 

Request all Chapter B2 members who are sewing to turn-in their sewn bears as soon as possible so we don’t overload our Stuffers & Stitchers at the last minute.  Please return any usable size scraps to me so we may make use of them.  Reminder:  We want to make sure that credit is given where credit is due – if someone is providing additional help to you in making the bears we need to get their name on the Volunteer Roster.
